This part of the coast is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB),
with extensive sea and mountain views. The estuary, beaches, forest and islets are in a Nature Reserve and include
Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs).

Malltraeth estuary, at low tide
The estuary is of particular interest to birdwatchers as it hosts a wide variety of native and migratory
birds. There are RSPB reserves along the Cefni Valley between Malltraeth and the A5, at South Stack and
elsewhere in Anglesey. The local wildlife pool and hides are worth a visit too.

The Snowdonia National Park is nearby of course, as are the great Norman castles of Beaumaris, Caenarvon,
Conwy and Harlech. There are also many many Celtic, Roman and Stone Age monuments in the vicinity.
